We put up our tent at the lovely campsite of L’Estréchure. We use the next day to make a trip along the “Corniche des Cévennes”, a panoramic road through the Cévennes from St. Jean to Florac.
At the Col St. Pierre we stop an enjoy pure nature and a nice view over the mountains.
Down in the Valley lies the little town of Florac. The castle is the seat of the information center of the Cévenns National Park. In this region Robert Louis Stevenson made his hike with the donkey which he described in his book “Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes”. I buy a comic version of it in the center (Le Faou: Voyage avec un âne dans les Cévennes. Èditions Alain Piazzola, Ajaccio).
We walk through the town, looking into bookstores (I must force me not to buy all the beautiful carnet-de-voyage-books on show there) and a butcher’s, where we buy delicious patés. Then I draw a nice little place with narrow houses and the mountain range above them. I have only drawn for some minutes, when a small Truck parks in front of me and covers parts of my view. I have to draw around it, and when the car has left I draw the rest.
